Explore Drniš area
Drniš sits at the crossroads to the most beautiful and most attractive parts of Krka National Park and the Šibenik-Knin County. It is well known for its original prosciutto, excellent wines and well preserved traditional, cultural and natural heritage. The town is rich in religious buildings and surrounded by medieval fortifications built by the Croatian lords to protect their lands and river crossings over Krka and Čikola rivers. In this area a world famous sculptor Ivan Meštrović was born and his art is also an essential part of the area’s tourist offer.
Ivan Meštrović
Ivan Meštrović’s works in Drniš are unavoidable. They are focal points for the town. Rightly so. They include a relief called ‘Orači (Ploughmen)’, another relief of St. Roko, a statue, ‘Mother and Child’ and a well-positioned drinking fountain called ‘Vrelo Života (Source of Life)’
Medieval fortifications
The system of medieval fortifications Ključica, Kamičak, Bogočin, Nečven and Trošenj is considered to be one of the largest and most significant historical defense structures in Croatia. Available for visitors are the fortress Gradina above town of Drniš, and an exquisite view on the fort Ključica can be enjoyed from viewpoint Ključica in the village Ključ.
National park Krka
Krka NP encompasses the area along the course of the Krka River, which flows through a deep and picturesque canyon for over 75 km and creates roaring waterfalls like the grand "Roški slap" and the fantastic "Skradinski buk" (Krka falls 48 m), Europe's largest travertine cascade system.
There are also two remarkable cultural monuments within the park, the Visovac Monastery and the Krka Monastery.
